Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee sowed potato seeds and tilled fields at Singur to protest the acquisition of this fertile farmland by the West Bengal government for the proposed Tata Motors small car project.

According to Ms. Mamata the farmers have not got allotment of new lands .Sowing potatos is her way of protesting the acquistion of land by the Government.
